To all you computerheads

Postby Niiko » Wed Nov 22, 2006 4:15 am

Every so often, sometimes sevale times a day, Norton Antivirus warns me that a worm intrusion has been detected and blocked. I've heard someof you say that Norton sucked. My subscription to Norton ends soon and Im, uh, somewhat short of funds, given my current moving and such. Is it important that Norton is finding these worm intrusions? Is there some shareware that will do the same thing, if these are important? I'm pretty computer illiterate-- I can connect all the cords and get a computer running and I can troubleshoot my friends' network problems usually, but my knowledge goes no further. Given that my norton subscription ends in a bit less than a month, what should I do? Just pay the money for a new subscription? Or is there a better solution?

AVG from Grisoft beats Norton's ass every way possible, and has a free version. Smaller footprint (less bloatware), faster/more accurate updates, etc.

Screw Norton. Delete it from your system and go get a good free anti-virus program. All the machines in my house use Anti-Vir and we've had nothing get in since Blaster in 2003.

I'd agree with brain, avg is nice. Just bought the regular version the other day, even though I haven't gotten a virus since the pentium II days.

I've used Symantec Corporate edition for a few years now. It never expires. I've never had a virus rape me. Best free anti-virus out there. (free if you got the hook up) :)
